林姓男子懷疑母親花他存款，年初在家放火，活活燒死父親，林男曾求法官判他死刑；合議庭依據醫院鑑定，指林患憂鬱症，有服用精神科藥物，加上喝酒，犯罪時行為能力降低，昨天判他無期徒刑，褫奪公權終身。

林母目睹丈夫葬身火窟，迄今走不出傷痛，出庭時不斷哭泣，拒絕作證；她說，「雖然兒子犯錯，但希望法院給他一個機會。」林男的胞弟得知判決結果說，家屬心情兩難，不便表示意見。

法院開庭時，林男表示在看守所裡常寫信給媽媽，請求媽媽原諒，看到媽媽痛苦，覺得自己不孝，「請法官判死刑，我不會上訴。」活得很痛苦，希望法官能成全，「這樣我會快樂一點」，讓他伏法前回家一趟，跪拜父親懺悔。
